In brief

Mother and Child, also known as the Maternity statue is a 1999 sculpture / statue by the Liverpool based sculptor Terry McDonald. As well as being at the Birmingham Women's Hospital, he also made an exact duplicate for the Liverpool Women's Hospital at the same time. He made it out of Fibreglass and resin.

Mother and Child - details

The sculptor was Terry McDonald, and he made two Maternity statues, one for Birmingham Women's Hospital, and the other for Liverpool Women's Hospital in 1999.

The statue is near the car park and close to Mindelsohn Way.

The artist used fibreglass and resin as it was cheaper than acquiring bronze for the piece.

The figure in Liverpool is 12 foot high, so we have to assume the Birmingham equivalent is the same size.
